Board of Trustees

Goals/Purpose:

Supervise and maintain all property belonging to the congregation so that the ministries of the congregation can be effective. Trustees, among other things, are responsible for overseeing all the church buildings and grounds, receiving and administering gifts made to the congregation, maintaining adequate insurance coverage, and reporting to the Administrative Board. This is a BIG job and we can always use the help of skilled people for various projects including painting, repair, grounds keeping, remodeling, and other improvements.

Just a few of the projects we have planed are:

Restore bell in steeple to working condition
Repair front sign
Clean up grounds (Scout Troop 569 sponsored by Bethel)
Touch up painting inside and out

Pastor-Parish Relations

Committee: Charles Pugh – Chair

Jane Carlsen, Bob Merchant, Cindy Gibbs, Jonathan Wilkens, Gordon Dolan, Bob Bittle, Tyler Oberdeck (Lay Leader), Rosella DePietro, Pastor Hager

MEETING DATE: December 1, 2003 7:00pm

ABSENT: Wilkens, Merchant, Dolan

AGENDA:

Budget

We met and discussed the ways to fit the Committee’s costs into the constraints that the church Finance Committee had set for 2004. As a group we do not feel that we should reduce any of the items remaining in our budget. We talked of the fact that almost all of our expenses now are “people money”. The Committee finally comes to reduce the time the Secretary will spend each week by removing those services in the afternoon. So there will be 15 hours per week Secretary service. There was much discussion about the need for more Secretary service, more Education service and that there is strong support for an annual financial compensation for the church Treasurer.

The next meeting is on December 7 with the District Superintendent in preparation for the Charge Conference.

Memorials

Goals/Purpose:

The Memorial Committee assists the families of deceased members to obtain suitable memorials for their loved ones. We keep a record of:

Needs appropriate for memorials and honorings
Memorial funds that come in/expenditures paid out during year
Designated and undesignated funds to be used as memorials
When specific needs come up during the year, we try to meet those requests with memorial funds.

A bulletin is prepared for All Saints’ Day in November.

The current Chair of the Memorial Committee is Ginny Simondet.

The committees latest activities include the purchases of a Clavinova, cabinets for the handbell choir’s bells, and the new supplemental hymnals.

Administrative Building Committee

Goals/Purpose:

Established in 2000 by the Administative Board, this committee was to plan for a building expansion project. This work was interrupted by the tragedy of 9/11/01, but is now being readdressed.

Committee: Bob Bittle – Chair

This outline is to convey to the Bethel Congregation the BUILDING REVITALIZATION PROJECT concept that will be proposed to the Administrative Board at January 6 meeting.

We have and will continue to conform with the Book of Discipline and through so Pastor Hager and Chair Bittle met informally with the District Building Committee on December 1 to familiarize them with the changed PROJECT and then at the Charge Conference on December 7 the direction was given to present the Building Revitalization Project to the Administrative Board. With their approval, then present the approved Project to the District Building Committee and the Bethel Congregation.

The 1 st item was to replace the storage building and the new one is built and the old will be down in the spring.

Update the Sanctuary by removing the sound equipment from the west side of the Chancel and enclose the stairwell that goes down stairs on the west side, remove the first pew row and extend the Chancel floor outward 5 feet, move the choir from under the east overhead, possibly place a window in the north wall, redo the lighting and sound in the Sanctuary and put glass doors across both transepts. Replace the wood with glass doors to enter the Sanctuary. Remove the current north wall of the “library” room. Replace the windows along the Sanctuary east wall.

Add two restrooms on the Narthex floor by enclosing the southwest stairwell and converting the old west entry to restrooms and storage. Update the Narthex furniture and offices.

Remodel the restrooms on the Fellowship Hall floor by converting the current closet and Men’s area to the Women’s and Women’s to Men’s including handicap building code.

Replace, renew and upgrade the mechanical room equipment, air handling equipment, electrical service including air conditioning the Sanctuary, 3 rd floor and the Fellowship Hall. Replace the windows along the east wall of the Fellowship Hall. Re-dig and re-design along the west side of the building wall, below ground, to correct any wall denigration.

Install an elevator (handicap code) on the outside of the east wall that will adjoin access hallways that now are next to the old furnace filter room on the Fellowship Hall floor and next to the Pastor’s office on the Sanctuary floor.

Remodel the hall throughways conveyance to the elevator on both floors and the old unused furnace room area.

Re-grade the ground that lies north of the building for preparation to “build” a garden.
